Areal's Story
Pioneering Immersive Audio Technology
With a background in large scale live events, we started looking for a solution to bridge the gap between stereo content and immersive systems without the latency, reverb and phase problems found in existing upmixers. The RISE® algorithm is our answer. Instead of adding effects, it intelligently redistributes the existing elements of a mix into a 3D field with near-zero latency. The resulting Upmix Engine hardware has proved itself at iconic events like Tomorrowland.
In parallel, we became fascinated with the challenge of creating accurate immersion in a pair of headphones. We wanted to give post-production professionals, broadcasters, and content creators a precise, portable spatial reference that could free them to work and create when they cannot be in the studio.
Today, Areal combines Belgian engineering excellence with cutting-edge audio technology, providing professional audio solutions for post-production, live events, broadcast, education, and experiential installations worldwide. The Areal SR1 Spatial Reference Headphone is a professional multi-driver headphone system designed for accurate and portable monitoring of immersive audio content. Powered by Areal’s AIM (Acoustic Image Mapping) technology, the SR1 delivers true spatial imaging without relying on binaural emulation or HRTF personalisation.
