Beyerdynamic Free BYRD Wireless Earbuds Review
Beyerdynamic are world renowned for their excellent German engineered studio headphones that have become known as the ‘studio legends’ due to their ubiquitous usage in recording studios all over the world. You might think it would be a bit of a push to try and recreate the legendary beyerdynamic sound in a pair of true wireless earbuds but they have sure given it a good go! The beyerdynamic Free BYRD comes as close as it can get to replicating the soundstage of their industry standard headphones and we certainly weren’t disappointed with the result.
THE SOUND
Let’s start talking about the low end. The Free BYRD has a HUGE in-your-face bass which frankly surprised us. We have never experienced that quality of bass in a pair of true wireless earbuds before, with an amazing tone that seems to reach right inside you. This is what a lot of other wireless earbuds fail to achieve and the bass on the Free BYRD is dynamic, so it never gets too much.
The layering of the lows, mids and highs are complementary, so a clear soundstage is presented to the listener. Vocals really sing and instruments sound as they are meant to be. The high end is nice and detailed with a crisp treble response as you would expect from beyerdynamic.
Like most high-end true wireless earbuds the beyerdynamic Free BYRD feature Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Transparency modes. These can be easily accessed with a double tap on the unit itself or through the proprietary MIY app. The app can let you EQ the sound to your taste and fine tune the Free BYRD to your own ears. Everyone has a different frequency response and through the MIY app you can take a listening test to ensure you are getting the very best experience.
BATTERY
This is where the beyerdynamic Free BYRD is in a league of its own. They will last a whopping 11 hours on a single charge which is almost double that of most of the leading wireless earbuds on the market. The carry case can also charge the earbuds and you can get four full charges out of it so you can have many hours of listening before you will need to recharge the Free BYRD.
BLUETOOTH
The beyerdynamic Free BYRD earbuds have Bluetooth version 5.2 which supports LE audio — higher quality audio transmitted over a lower bandwidth to give you the best listening experience. Pairing is quick and easy with a good range of 10m and the Free BYRD includes the latest audio codecs: Qualcomm® aptX™ Adaptive and AAC. Amazon Alexa and Google Fast Pair are built in as standard.
